Beautiful signed and numbered (56/400) print “Autumn Leaves” by Carol Collette. Reverso: Carol Collette was born in Toronto, Canada in 1945. Her early interests included drawing and painting, for which she showed remarkable talent. These interests led her to study art at the Ontario College of Art where, in 1966, she graduated with honors. In 1969, while on a European tour, she became fascinated with etching, and began working in that technique upon arriving home. Carol combines etching and watercolour to produce her work. First, she makes a series of preparatory drawings. Then she coats a thin, highly polished copperplate with an acid resistant varnish. Using a sharp needle, the artist draws directly on the coated plate. When the drawing is completed, she puts the plate into acid which etches the copper wherever it is exposed. Then she applies etching ink to the etched lines. In the next step she places the inked and polished plate on a press and lays a sheet of 100% rag paper on top of it. The pressure from the rollers of the etching press embosses the image into the paper. After the edition has been printed, the work is hand-watercoloured. Using brushes and watercolours, the artist is able to fully exploit the medium to create her images.
